Day 1. 05.05.2025, «Walking around Dikson»

Dikson is a sleeping town located on the north-western tip of the Taimyr Peninsula, at the mouth of the Yenisei Bay, on the coast of the Kara Sea. Here dogs, half a man’s height, guard the town from polar bears, the geomagnetic properties of the territory are so unique that in the last century scientist-astrophysicist Nikolai Kozyrev conducted research of his mirrors, the northern lights are ones of the brightest in Russia, and people-fans of science still live here!

The way to Dikson lies through one of the largest northern cities — Norilsk. A short transfer and you are already on the 73rd parallel! The way from the airport to the flats (there are no hotels in Dikson) will take 30 minutes by all-terrain vehicles across the frozen Kara Sea.

After settling in you will have lunch, an organisational meeting with other expedition participants, and a safety briefing (remember bears).

Dikson is a town where the history of geographical discoveries and human courage has been mixed in an amazing way. Tessem and Begichev are buried here, the trace of the Norwegian polar expedition can be clearly traced here and, finally, Dikson is the only town beyond the Urals that fought with fascists during the Great Patriotic War.

In the evening we will have dinner with tasting of northern fish and venison dishes, tasting of famous Dikson buns.

Day 2. — 06.05.2025, «Resorts of the Kara Sea».

After breakfast we will leave to the boundless snow-covered tundra by all-terrain vehicles to the northern bay «Chaika», where we will enjoy the beauty of wild nature. And also we will plunge into the atmosphere of traditional northern rest in a Russian bathhouse overlooking the Kara Sea.

We will continue the evening with hot tea with berries and unique dishes of the region.

Return to Dikson.

Day 3. — 07.05.2025, «Polar Observations and Artistic Discoveries.»

Have you heard about Kozyrev’s mirrors? Here, on Dikson, they are remembered very well. Today we will dive into the world of geological distortions and geomagnetic waves. We will visit Kolba Geophysical Station, where you will be told all the secrets of the northern lights and see the life of scientists devoted to their profession.

After a hearty lunch we will go to the northernmost art gallery in Russia, which collection fund has more than 300 works of art.  Paintings, sculptures, graphics — all of them were brought to Dikson by polar aircraft in 1987. Many works are devoted to the North and Yenisei, the huge Siberian river.

At dinner we will discuss the highlights of the day.

Day 4. — 08.05.2025, «Fishing in the bay».

Breakfast.

Departure by all-terrain vehicle to the Kara Sea bay, located on the shore of Peter Chichagov, a picturesque sea coast of the south-western part of the Taimyr Peninsula, between the Yenisei Bay and the mouth of the Pyasina River. This 200-kilometers wild and mysterious territory stretches from west to east and beckons all tourists with its grandeur. The shores of the bay are washed by the cold waters of the Kara Sea, including the Pyasinskaya Bay, and from the south they are bounded by the spurs of the Byrranga mountain range.

Your accommodation will be in cosy fishermen’s huts (for 3-5 people). During the day you will be able to explore the surroundings, enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery.

The rest of the day will be spent catching northern fish, and on our return to the shore we will prepare sagudai — an exquisite dish in which freshly caught fish is marinated in lemon juice with aromatic onions and spicy herbs.

Return to Dikson.

Day 5. — 09.05.2025, «The day when Dikson had to defend itself».

This day will be dedicated to the history of Dikson’s defence. We will visit the school museum and talk to local people.

In the evening we will have a master class in making Dikson buns and a tea party with the locals.

Day 6. — 10.05.2025, «Sleeping City».

Once strong in people and science, Dikson was spread out into an island and mainland, now the island part is practically abandoned. We will walk around the abandoned part of the town, see snowdrifts as tall as a quarter of a five-storey building, and then go to the polar meteorological station. The staff of the station provides meteorological, actinometric, marine, coastal and aerological observations.

You will plunge into climatic processes of northern latitudes. The station staff will tell you about meteorological observations, global warming and a special device for measuring the duration of day light — heliograph.

We will also try ourselves as researchers — we will collect and analyse meteorological data and learn how to use instruments for measurement

At dinner we will discuss the highlights of the day.
